Networks
- LAN: LAN stands for Local Area Network. A LAN devices is when it is connected over a small geographical area
- WAN: WAN stands for Wide Area Network. A WAN is when networks are connected over a large geographical area
- WAPN: WAPN stands for Wireless Personal Area Network. A WAPN allows us to pair devices together over a short range
Connection Types
- Wifi: Wifi is a wireless way to transfer data. It is good of connecting portable devices to a LAN but it has slower transfer speed compared to Ethernet, it has limited range and it can be hacked
- Ethernet: Ethernet is another way to transfer data it data transfer speed is much faster compared to Wifi it has a range of 100 meters but the only down side is that the cables a expensive
- GPRS: GPRS again is another way to transfer data but this can transfer data on the move so it is good for mobile devices but mobile data can be expensive
- Bluetooth: Bluetooth is a way that you can pair a device to a peripheral. 7 devices can be paired at the same time however it can be hacked and the range is quite short
Network Hardware
- Ethernet cable: An Ethernet cable is a common type of network cable used with wired networks. Ethernet cables connect devices such as PCs, routers, and switches within a local area network.
- Router: a router connects devices within a network by forwarding data packets between them. This data can be sent between devices, or from devices to the internet. The router does this by assigning a local IP address to each of the devices on the network.
- Switch: A network switch is a hardware device that channels incoming data from multiple input ports to a specific output port that will take it toward its intended destination. It is a small device that transfers data packets between multiple network devices such as computers, routers, servers or other switches.
- wifi Extender : A WiFi repeater or extender is used to extend the coverage area of your WiFi network. It works by receiving your existing WiFi signal, amplifying it and then transmitting the boosted signal.
- Periphrals: A computer peripheral is any external device that provides input and output for the computer. For example, a keyboard and mouse are input peripherals, while a monitor and printer are output peripherals . Some peripherals, such as external hard drives, provide both input and output for the computer.
- Network interface controller: A computer's network card works by taking the data given to it by the CPU and sending it to a destination. It translates the data into a form that can be transferred via cables and then translates the data it receives back into data usable by the computer.
Input & output
- Output devices: An output device is any peripheral that receives data from a computer, usually for display, projection, or physical reproduction. ... Monitors and printers are two of the most common output devices used with a computer.
- Input Devices: Any information or data that is sent to a computer for processing is considered input. Input or user input is sent to a computer using an input device. The picture is an illustration of the difference between input and output. The input example (top) shows data being sent from a keyboard to a computer.
