   • Avoids ethical issues & Not difficult to record data - not in secret
   • Hawthorne effect & Not suitable for studying difficult to reach groups & Can lack in validity

4. Covert - Researcher does not know that they are being studied

   • James Patrick
   • No Hawthorne effect & can study difficult to reach groups & High validity
   • Ethical issues & Difficult to record data & Researcher will have to lie about identity & leaving group

5. Structured - Involve researcher using a structured observation schedule - List of behaviours

6. Going native & Lack reliability & Only study small groups & Time consuming & Expensive

7. Naturalistic approach & Good for studying hard to reach groups & High validity & Rich depth
