   • Input Sanitisation
     • checks data that is entered and removes anything that might be potentially dangerous
       • A hacker might try to gain access to a website’s data through a SQL injection attack, this can be stopped by removing semi-colon from the input
   • Masking
     • hides visible data by replacing it with something else. E.g. an asterisk (*)
