  1. Emperor
    1. Held the ultimate and superior power.
      1. Throne was passed down through nobility.
    2. Gentry- wealthy land owning class.
      1. Able to spend years studying and recieved good education.
        1. Were capable of partaking in government.
      2. Peasantry- usually worked on land or as servants.
        1. Land reforming allowed peasants to earn money so they could pay taxes.
          1. Lived in small self-sufficient villages.
        2. Merchants- had the lowest social status.
          1. Because they recieve their wealth from the labor of others.
            1. Rulers often restricted where foreign merchants could live.
