1. Firewall

   • Prevents harmful data entering your computer.
   • Used to help protect a computer network from intruders.
   • A firewall controls which programs send or receive data packets.
   • You need to control which programs you can send and/or receive data packets because otherwise you might get i virus and then it may take over your computer.

2. Anti-virus

   • Needs updating regularly so that it knows the latest threats.
   • Scans the computer for periodically.
     • Periodically means when you do something at certain time intervals
   • Quarantine means to isolate the infected file from the others.

3. Encryption

   • Encryption is a way of communicating but only the receiver gets it.
   • It effectively scrambles the data that you type so that you can't read it unless you have a key.
   • To encrypt a code you have to use a cipher.
   • To decrypt a code you have to have a key.
   • We use encryption to secretly send someone a message.
   • We all use encryption a lot for things like email so that no one else can't see that email that you have sent.

6. Some of the consequences of not having antivirus or firewall are :

   • If you purchase something online (E.G Amazon) it might be a fake website so they might take some of your bank details.
   • If you are on a website that does not have HTTPS before the WWW then it is a fake website and therefore not trust worthy.

7. Computer Security

   • If/When you buy something online then you must check weather or not it has HTTPS at the top. If it does then it is safe to use. If you have nothing at the top, then it is not safe.
   • When opening emails be sure to check the link so you know it is safe.
   • Be careful when downloading free games as they might be a scam and you might be hacked and the hacker may take over your computer.
   • Be careful when signing up to websites because they may be a scam and when you do sign up the host will take your details and get into your account.
   • Having a secure password is vital so that people can't guess your password and log into your account. Something like password or anything with no CAPS or numbers is not safe. What would be a good password is something like P4ssWord. Another thing is to use symbols in your password E.G !"£$%^&*() Etc.
   • Quarantine means when you isolate a file/program.
   • Phishing is a form of getting details off of you. It all starts with an email saying something about bank details E.G tax details.
   • Attachments are files that are linked to an email message.
