Joint Types

Joint Types

1. Planar

   • linear
   • cervical vertibrae

2. Uniaxial

   • Pivot
     • peg + ring
     • proximal radioulnar joint
   • hinge
     • convex and concave surface
     • MCP joint equine
     • inhibited by notches to stop lateral movement

3. Biaxial

   • Condyloid
     • knuckle shaped condyles allow uniaxial movement with some rotation
   • ellipsoid
     • egg shaped convex articulation allows two planes to move at right angles
     • radiocarpal joint
   • saddle
     • greater scope for rotation
     • one of the bones shaped like a saddle and sits on the other

4. multiaxial

   • Ball and Socket
