Milgrams Variation- Shock Plates
  1. AIM
    1. To see if level of obedience increased or decreased when teacher and learner were in the same room
      1. When participant physically had to administer pain
      2. To manipulate a factor that may influenced results from original study
      3. PROCEDURE
        1. Similar to Milgrams original study...
          1. Except at each incorrect answer the victim was shoicked only when the 'teacher' physically forced his hand onto the plate
          2. At 150volts...
            1. Learner refused to place his hand on the plate, and the experimenter ordered the subject to put their hand on the plate
          3. RESULTS
            1. 12/40 subjects forcibly held the learners hand in place
              1. 30%
                1. ... and continued to admininster shocks up to the maximum 450volts
              2. CONCLUSION
                1. In relation to the original study...
                  1. Obedience decreased as the subject came into close proximity with the victim
                    1. They had to physically administer the pain instead
