ascii
Stands for the American Standard Code for Information Interchange
Most common format for text files in computers and on the internet.
With ASCII, each letter, number or symbol is given a number code from 0 to 127. Max - 128 characters to be represented, which is enough for every upper-case letter, lower-case letter, digit and punctuation mark on most keyboards
It has 8 bits in total, but only uses 7 to represent a character because one bit is used for error checking during transmission. This known as a parity bit.
Only for English language
extended ascii
- This is an 8-bit character set, representing 256 different characters making it possible to use characters such as é or ©.
- Extended ASCII is useful for European languages.
Global companies, like Facebook and Google, would not use the ASCII character set because they need a wider range of characters for their users are from all over the world, and speak many languages, not just English. They will instead use Unicode.
