Central Executive
- Functions: -Directs focus to tasks -Determines resource allocations -controls attention and coordinates actions from other components (slave systems) can brifly store memory
Episodic buffer
- -Baddeley (2000) added episodic buffer as he realised the model needed a more general store -Its purpose is to bind together all of the information from the other components of working memory with information about time and order. -Slave systems deal with specific types of information -Central executive has no storage capacity -Buffer extra storage system but with limited capacity -integrates information from all other ares.
- Phonological loop
- -limited capacity -deals with auditory information and preserves word order -Baddeley (1986) -phonological store (holds word order) -articulatory process (holds words heard/seen and silently repeated (loop) like an inner voice)
- Visuospatial sketchpad
- visual and/or spatial information is stored here. it stores and manipulates information. input is from the eyes or long term memory. if you imagine and object turning you use you visuospatial sketchpad. -limited capacity -Logie (1995) suggested sub division: -visuo-cache -inner scribe for spatial relations
