Punjabi music makes Sam want to move
Sam is in her 40s, married with 2 children and works in a role that involves a high use of technology. She has been listening to Punjabi music from a young age. There is something about it that really makes her want to move. She listens regularly to the radio, and watches some Punjabi television shows - each time she hears new Punjabi music, it makes her fidgety. Sam is related to many people who are overweight, or have heart disease or type 2 diabetes. She knows that this is prevalant in the South Asian community and doesn't want to be on the negative side of the statistics. If only she could turn that enthusiasm into a mindful activity that will keep her healthy.
Rubrica: : Sam needs to move, for herself and her family

    She then discovers...
Having visited gyms and found dozens of workout videos on YouTube, Sam is familiar with many exercise types. She has given many a try, but few keep her attention. She has even tried dance classes, including dancing to Punjabi music. But she found them to be badly taught, mostly dance enthusiasts at the front performing their hearts out, hoping the class can follow. Sam is clued up, but she can't follow an advanced performer. Also Sam found she couldn't attend every single week; so when she went back, her ability to keep up with the class reduced even further. Not all exercise classes are like this. She thought, "there must be an exercise class that doesn't force you to attend every week, and where the instructor is a qualified teacher..." All this time she was searching for the wrong term, "bhangra" spelt the conventional way.
Rubrica: : Her intuition was correct

Good group exercise to Punjabi music
Sam strumbled across videos that follow the ideal exercise sequence, from warm up, to conditioning, to cool down and stretches. Occasionally using weights and other exercise techniques too. Best of all, the instructor wasn't just showing off how good a dancer he is - he was actually "teaching".

    In 2020, Sam's vision became 20/20 too
Sam calculated how long her one hour workouts in her gym really took; when accounting for travel, getting changed and other factors, each one hour workout was taking more like 1 hour and 45 minutes. That's 45 minutes of wasted time. So imagine how she felt about classes where they were standing around for a lot of that hour, that infuritating our time precise Sam. In 2020 she had no choice but to exercise at home, and although hestitant initially, within a few weeks Sam thought to herself "why did I waste so much of my life in the gym?". Sam only likes classes anyway. Invited to join live classes on Zoom, Instagram and others, Sam soon realised how terrible these were. The audio and video quality was dreadful, and she'll never understand how anyone can follow a workout on a moble screen.

The best place to workout at home
Sam and her family already have a great TV with amazing sound in their living room. Sam didn't want to connect her laptop, or mobile, with wires to try to exercise at home. She can access YouTube on her smart TV, just from her remote control - that's the elegant and frictionless solution.

    Just 20 minutes, 5 times a week
This team in Southall, UK, create videos and publish them for free on YouTube. Sam used to visit her local gym, alone, meaning she was away from her children. Now, she exercise with them, at home, and they all enjoy this family activity. They don't always manage 5 times a week, but they certain try to.
