- 1What is flash memory?its a type of non-volatile storage and retains its information even without power.
Its tough and will not break when dropped or exposed (solid state) - 2What is cache memory?Its a collection of items of the same type stored in a hidden or inaccessible place. Its volatile, can be accessed faster then RAM and the larger the cache size, the better the performance.

Terabyte - 4What is a peripheral device?Its hardware devices that fit into one of the categories but are external to the main body of the computer. Usually connected by cables or wirelessly.

when power is switched off the contents of the RAM are lost, it is volatile and it holds the programs and modules that are currently open. - 6What is ROM?Read only memory.
A computer uses ROM when it boots up. ROM retains data even when it has no power and its non-volatile so it doesn't lose information. - 7What is virtual memory?Some operating systems(windows) make use of the Hard Disk Drive for virtual memory. It avoids the computer crashing when memory runs out. Its much slower than RAM.
- 8What does a computer system do?A computer system is able to take a set of data inputs, process them and produce outputs. It does this using hardware and software.
- 9What is an embedded computer system?It includes a computer but it is not itself a general purpose computer. It includes hardware and software and its expected to function without human intervention.
- 10What is a CPU?Its a central processing unit that looks in the cache for the data it needs. If the data is there, it will retrieve it and process it. If the data isn't there then the CPU accesses the system memory and then puts a copy of the new data in the cache before processing it.
