Bunsen Flame Test with salts

Description

Using a damp wooden splint a sample of salt is held above a blue bunsen flame. The procedure is repeated using salts containing different metals. Each gives a different colour due to their differing electronic configuration. The colours obtained by this test can be used to identify the metals present in unknown compounds.
