Question 1

Question
What is LEAF?
Answer
  • LEAF is an online database where strings are stored.
  • LEAF is a translation tool.
  • LEAF is a file type we use.

Question 2

Question
What is FABRIC?
Answer
  • It's another name for LEAF. For some reason everything on this account has multiple names!
  • Fabric is an online database where the Client keeps all strings.
  • Fabric is an older translation tool that we no longer use. We worked with it before LEAF was created.

Question 3

Question
Your translation query is a file that you translate.
Answer
  • True
  • False

Question 4

Question
What is the difference between Translation query and Review query?
Answer
  • Language Standard Conditions or filters may be different.
  • Only the part where it says 'SDL_Language_Translator' or 'SDL_Language_Review'.
  • Review query has an additional condition.

Question 5

Question
Why do we use queries? Wouldn't it be easier for the Client to send & receive files?
Answer
  • We think so, but our Client is a huge corporation, and it's hard to tell them the tool they have created for us is worse than our own.
  • It would be easier for us, but not for the Client. For them it's better that we have access to all those and only those resources they want us to modify.
  • It's a matter of TMs. Translation Memory and iMT are applied on the Client's side, and they don't want us to keep our own.

Question 6

Question
What is a Vendor Context Query (VCQ)? How do you use it?
Answer
  • It's a field in LEAF where Developers add comments and instructions for us before they send us the strings. We should always check it while we progress.
  • It's a field in LEAF where we can ask questions about the strings that lack necessary context. We should set a string to TRAP 4 when we log a question.
  • It's a separate file in which we copy the strings we need more context for and send to the PM. PM should get back to us with answers from the Client, and meanwhile strings can be kept at TRAP 4.

Question 7

Question
What should we do if someone else already logged the question that we wanted to ask in Vendor Context Query?
Answer
  • We should comment under their question saying the same applies to our language, and set the string to TRAP 4.
  • We should check the 'escalate' box, and set the string to TRAP 4.
  • Only set the string to TRAP 4.

Question 8

Question
You need to specially enable Instruction field in LEAF to see it.
Answer
  • True
  • False

Question 9

Question
Strings are color-coded in LEAF for easier recognition of their origin. While there are some rare exceptions (usually due to errors in LEAF), generally the meaning of particular colors is as follows:
Answer
  • New strings are pink, Updated strings are yellow, and AT or MT strings are dark green. Strings turn to lighter green when set to Localized.
  • New strings are pink or gray, Updated strings are light green, and AT or MT strings are yellow. Strings turn dark green when set Localized.
  • New strings are dark green, updated strings are pink. Strings turn to light green when set localized, and to yellow when delivered to the Client by Engineers (TRAP 7).

Question 10

Question
The difference between a 'tenant' and a 'project' is...
Answer
  • Tenant is a part of LEAF, while project is our internal project cost code.
  • LEAF is divided into tenants, which are further divided into projects.
  • Project is the Client's account that we work on, while tenant is a kind of filter in LEAF.
