- Rules are formalised customs, they apply only to certain groups, rather than to all of society. Your school, classroom and sporting club all have rules to follow. We must follow the rules but they are not enforceable by law. Some examples of rules include:
- bedtime (home time)
- fair play (sporting club)
- putting your hand up (school)
- no hat no play (school)
-

- Laws apply to everyone. A law is a legal rule or regulation which is made and enforced by Parliament. Laws explain what our right and responsibilities are and they exist to protect us and our property. Laws are important to help protect our society and to show people what is acceptable behaviour according to the values of that society.
