• The Internet Protocol is used to route the packets of information across the internet. Its a individual unit of data which is carried across the network (including the internet.) It is one of the functions of transmission control protocol to organise an internet message in packets.

Transmission control protocol

• The transmission control protocol is data from a user's application program and passes it on to the IP for transfer across the internet. The other option is performed at the destination computer, The TCP reassembles the data and forwards them to the users application program. The close relation with the IP means that the terms are usually used in combination.
