Strengths

*Lorenz (geese experiment) found that imprinting is innate. The geese followed him after being the first thing they saw

*Hodges and Tizard found children who had found it difficult to form an attachment struggled later in life

*Tronick et al 1992 African tribe study. Found infants being fed by other women in the tribe and only spending time with their mother at night still had the special bond -montropy - food isn't the reason for attachment

*Dchaffer and Emerson found its the quality of caregiving not the quantity

*Harlow's monkey experiment showed comfort over food -22 hours on comfort mother, 2 on food mother

Weaknesses

Grossmann and Grossmann (1991) suggested that a father figure was just as important in emotional development

Someone can be innately friendly therefore suggesting that it is not past relationships that are the basis of future relationships but just who you are therefore disagreeing with internal working model and the temperament hypothesis
