  1. 1How did the Greeks contribute to knowledge of the atomic structure?- Greek philosopher Demokritis said that
"all matter could be divided and sub divided into smaller units until it couldn't anymore"
    - ancient Greeks could not support the theory
    - came up with four elements; Fire, Earth, Water and Air
    - atom (atomos, greek word for indivisible)
  2. 2How did Dalton contribute to knowledge of atomic structure?- developed/ proposed atomic theory 1800s
    Conclusions;
    - different elements have different masses
    - all maters are made of atoms
    - atoms are rearranged in a chemical reaction
    - compounds are formed when 2 or more atoms join together
  3. 3How did JJ Thompson contribute to atomic theory?- 1897
    - showed atoms contained smaller pieces
    - he opposed Dalton's theory that atoms couldn't be broken down
  4. 4How did Rutherford contribute to knowledge of atomic structure in 1911?-Tested plum pudding model (tried to overturn)
    - he aimed a beam of alpha particles at thin gold foil
    - some alpha particles emerged at different angles, some went straight back
    - some were repelled and some were deflected by the positive charge in the atom
  5. 5How did Bohr contribute to atomic structure in 1913?- developed Rutherford's model further
    - used experimental evidence to support his ideas that electrons occupy orbits/ shells around a nucleus
  6. 6How Chadwick contribute to knowledge of atomic structure in 1935?- discovered neutrons in an atom
    - found that despite having no charge they contribute to the atomic weight (in nucleus)
