- 1Methodology to Avoid Privacy ConcernsThe goal is to allow multi-faceted cohort generation or disease indications from multiple possibly related sources, for example, clinical (anonymized) data from a collection of zip codes combined with social media, user generated content (blogs) or other easily identifiable data streams to better understand the "vernacular" of disease prevalence in the same geographic area. A "privacy graph" is used to examine the combinations, intersections and synthetic properties of anonymized and identified data sets, with the goal of determining if any potential query, join or other operations would possibly re-identify anonymous data (within a cohort size of less than 11 individuals, generalizable to K individuals) by combining it with social or user generated data. This is done by constructing a graph consisting of nodes that are potential identities (synthetic persons) and edges in the graph that represent potential equivalences between nodes based on personally identifiable information, geographic, time series, or common transaction bounding boxes. - 2Taking the Risk out of Data Sharing"Sharing data within or across organizations is considered a risk by many data owners. This significantly limits the ability of collaboration and innovation around RWE data. We propose a set of technical solutions around data anonymization and differential privacy to take the risk out of data sharing and thus enable a culture of data exchange.

Now, as we embark on modernizing the current RWD platform, the One Merck Database (OMDB), to the latest cloud environment(s), to apply ever-increasing sophisticated analytics, and to grant access to a broader (cross-divisional and global) RWD enterprise community, we have the perfect opportunity to advance such RWE insight
