- 1What is the Von Neumann ArchitectureIt's a model illustrating the modern computer architecture
- 2Name the 5 major components of the Von Neumann ArchitectureInput-Output Unit
Control Unit
Logic Unit
Memory
BUS - 3Put the 5 major components of the Von Neumann Architecture in the right places
- 4Define Input-Output UnitThe unit allows a user interact with the computer while providing it with an input in anticipation of an output.
- 5Define Control UnitThis unit deals with the handling of instructions, processing of the data, storing it in memory and reading it back from it at the right moment.
- 6Define Logic UnitThis unit is responsible for carrying out basic mathematical operation such as addition, subtraction etc.
- 7Define MemoryThis section stores data and the instructions to deal with data.
Main memory is
any form of memory that is directly accessible
by the CPU, except for cache and registers. - 8Define BUSThis is the machine equivalent of umbilical chord - the connector of the other four parts to the motherboard.
- 9what is assembly languageIn computer programming, assembly language (or assembler language), often abbreviated, is any low-level programming language in which there is a very strong correspondence between the instructions in the language and the architecture's machine code instructions.
- 10What is a mnemonic and give some examples.A mnemonic is a term, symbol or name used to define or specify a computing function. INP, STA, ADD, BRA
- 11What does LMC stand for and what is itLittle Man Computer
It uses a low-level language to demonstrate the inner workings of a computers brain - 12Write a simple program to add 10 and 12 together and explain what values were in the accumulator at each stage of the processINP
STA 99
INP
ADD 99
OUT
HLT
when you inout the first number, 10 will be in the accumulator and then in line 3, 10 is then stored in the register 99. Then when 12is input, 12 is in the accumulator. In line 4 both the value from the register 99 and the value from the accumulator go into the arithmetic and logic unit and then the result is outputted. - 13When specifying where to store inputs inLMC what must you consider so that your program is not overwritten. You cannot store any inputs in registers that are used to hold the program machine code. Otherwise you will corrupt the program.

- 153.2 ProgrammingN/A
- 16What is a data typeAn attribute of data which tells the compiler or interpreter how the programmer intends to use the data.
A data type provides a set of values from which an expression (i.e. variable, function, etc.) may take its values. - 17What is an integerwhole numbers. Including negatives
- 18What is a realDecimal digits including negatives
- 19what is a booleantrue or false answers
- 20what is a characterA single letter. A character must be stored as a byte - 8 bits
- 21what is a string?text. made up of multiple characters
- 22What is the difference between variable declaration and constant declaration?when you declare a variable, you can reassign a new value to the variable whenever you want. When you assign a constant the value of that variable should never change.
Note: you cannot specifically define constants in python - 23Name the similarities and difference between functions and procedures? They both:
let the same code be repeated multiple times in a program
However functions have input and outputs while procedures do not
E.g. function bigger_20000(input) would return true or false.
Procedure would be update_display() which does work behind the scenes - 24what is the standard naming convention you should always use in python#put a comment at every new block of code
name_variables_like_this
use 4 spaces for indentation - 25—
