In eerie, chanting tones, they make plans to meet again after the battle to confront Macbeth. As quickly as they appeared, they soon disappear again. At the start of the play when Macbeth is in battle, the 3 witches use a quote" Fair is foul, and foul is fair". This quote is one of the famous ones from which the witches mention during Macbeth. When Macbeth finds out that Macduff and his army are heading towards Macbeth's castle, Macbeth knows why he is coming because of what happened where Macbeth could not get to Macduff, so Macbeth killed Macduff's wife and also his children that he had as well. Macbeth has a nightmare because he has the daggers in his hands after he had killed both Duncan but the guards protecting Duncan's room where he was asleep but Macbeth to blame it on the servants. Macbeth
The scene opens during a war. Scotland is currently facing Ireland and Norway in battles.
A wounded captain gives King Duncan news that the leader of the Irish rebels, Macdonwald, has been killed by Macbeth and Banquo.
As the captain leaves, the Thane of Ross enters, telling the king that the Thane of Cawdor, who had betrayed them, has been captured and the Norwegian army held back.
King Duncan declares that the title of Thane of Cawdor will be passed on to Macbeth for his bravery and accomplishments. The Thane of Ross leaves to deliver this news.
Lady Macbeth receives a letter from Macbeth explaining that he will become the " Thane of Cawdor" after the old one was killed after being a traitor.
Later on in the play, after Macbeth finds out that Duncan is coming to his castle, he puts together a banquet for him.
Before that, Macbeth kills Banquo and at the banquet no-one else except from Macbeth can see that Banquo's ghost is sitting in his chair.
