1. Literal Rule: Where a judge will use the natural or ordinary meaning off a word or phrase for example from the dictionary

2. Golden rule: Judge will use this rule when the literal rule has lead to an absurd outcome there are 2 methods, gold narrow: when the word has 2 or more meanings and the judge picks with the least absurd outcome. Golden broad: when the word/ phrase has one meaning but the judge creates a new one.
