1. What is the Periodic Table

   • It is organized by grouping those together with similar properties
     • There are 7 periods and 8 groups
     • Each Element has:
       • an atomic mass
       • and an atomic number
       • an element name
       • an element symbol
   • Knowing the position of an element can help you to predict what an element is like and how it acts

2. Marvellous Metals

   • most elements are metals. They are altogether on the left of the stepped diagonal line.
     • Copper is a transition metal and it conducts electricity well
   • Calcium is vital for teeth and bones
     • Hydrogen is the most common element in the universe
     • Oxygen and silicon are the two most common elements found on the earth
   • Sodium makes street lights glow orange
     • Sulfur is found near volcanoes
     • All living things contain carbon

3. The Noble gases

   • TheNoble gases are:
     • Helium
     • Krypton
     • Neon
     • Argon
       • Your body is mainly compounds
     • Xenon
     • Randon
   • They are all colourless
   • The noble gases are all unreactive
     • Silicon
       • it makes microchips
       • Silicon is a semi metal
         • Silicon compounds make rocks, gemstones, and hair conditioner
     • Noble gases are used for lights lasers and double glazing
     • Companies separate noble gases from the air

4. The Halogens

   • The further down the group you go, the more deadly they are
   • 2=gas 1=liquid 1=solid
     • They all smell of swimming pools
       • Halogens are very reactive which means that they make lots of compounds
         • You'll never find halogens on their own. Their joined to other elements
   • They are:
     • Fluorine
     • Chlorine
     • Bromine
     • Iodine
     • Astatine

5. Vital non-metals

   • Carbon
     • Diamond and graphite are both made from carbon
   • They are:
     • Carbon
     • Nitrogen
     • Hydrogen
     • Oxygen
