Approaches- Wundt and Introspection

Approaches- Wundt and Introspection

1. Separated psychology from philosophy

   • Made it a science, including controlled study of the human brain and behaviour
     • Controlled conditions
     • Standardisation
     • Allowed for replication

2. Created the first psychology lab

   • Leipzig, Germany
   • 1879

3. Introspection

   • Structuralism
     • Breaking conscious awareness into basic structures of thoughts, images and sensations
   • Recording one's own thoughts
   • Stimulus like a ticking metronome

4. Evaluation

   • Too subjective
   • First attempt to study the brain scientifically
   • Attempt to control variables
