Questions
Task 1
- What is a Cpu?
- A CPU is a central processing unit.
- What does it do?
- It is responsible for executing a sequence of stored instructions called a program.
- What are the 3 main elements of a CPU?
- The three parts of a CPU are Control Unit, Arithmetic Unit, Immediate Access Store.
- What is a Cpu?
Task 2
- What is a control unit in a CPU and What does it do?
- The CU directs the operation of the other units by providing timing and control signals. All computer resources are managed by the CU. It directs the flow of data between the CPU and the other devices.
- What is a control unit in a CPU and What does it do?
Task 3
- What is an Immediate Access Store in a CPU? What does it do? Why does it need to do this?
- The IAS stores data and programs needed at that instant by the control unit. The CPU reads data and programs kept on the backing storage and stores it temporarily in the IAS's memory. The CPU needs to do this because backing storage is much too slow to be able to run applications directly.
- What is an Immediate Access Store in a CPU? What does it do? Why does it need to do this?
Task 4
- What is an ALU?
- In digital electronics, an arithmetic logic unit is a digital circuit that performs integer arithmetic and logical operations.
- What does it do?
- It can calculate operations that are arithmetic and logical.
- What is an ALU?
Task 5
- What does the FETCH part of the Fetch and Execute cycle do?
- The fetch part is when the CPU will get a set of instructions.
- Demonstrate it.
- The CPU will FETCH an instruction and then goes to execute it.
- What does the FETCH part of the Fetch and Execute cycle do?
Task 6
- What does the DECODE part of the cycle do?
- The decode part of the cycle receives the task and decodes it as it needs to get the task.
- What does the DECODE part of the cycle do?
Task 7
- What does the EXECUTE part of the cycle do?
- After receiving the decoded task it executes the task so it is completed.
- What does the EXECUTE part of the cycle do?
Task 8
- What is the clock speed in a computer?
- In a computer, clock speed refers to the number pulses per second generated by an oscillator that sets the tempo for the processor.
- What does it do?
- It controls the time of the instructions.
- How is it measured?
- Clock speed is measured in cycles and giga hertz (GHz)
- What is the clock speed in a computer?
Task 9
- Examples of computers with the following: 1 CPU, 2 CPU, 3 CPU.
- 1 CPU = Intel core processor, 2 CPU = Dual core processor, 3 CPU = Quad core processor.
- Examples of computers with the following: 1 CPU, 2 CPU, 3 CPU.
