Secondary Storage

Secondary Storage

1. Examples

   • Solid State
     • Faster read and write speed compared to magnetic storage
     • If you were measuring the cost per gb of space the ssd is a lot more expensive compared to hdd
   • Non volatile and stores data permanently
   • Magnetic
     • One of the greatest things about magnetic disk storage is its ability to fit a tremendous amount of information into a small amount of space

2. Fast write/read speed compared to magnetic storage

3. Optical

   • DVD
   • A disadvantage of optical storage is the capacity
   • They use less moving parts and more durable

4. Has poor durablity compared to solid state
