1. Cancer=Uncontrolled cell division

2. Two things have to happen

   • The tumor suppressor gene is inactive (inactive tumor suppressor)
     • Have to both be present in the same cell
     • How does it become inactive?
       • Both copies of the gene are mutated
     • Tumor suppressor function=Slow down cell division, perform apoptosis
       • Apoptosis= controlled cell death
   • An oncogene is active (Active oncogene)
     • How does it become active
       • Both copies of the gene are mutated
       • Could be one copy for an oncogene
     • A gene that can turn a cell into a tumor cell when active in the same cell as an inactive tumor suppressor gene
