Argument for:
1. identifies and gives a sense of belonging
2. individuality
3. celebration of diversity
4. identifies location
5. may educate some others with different accents
Argument against
1. can stereotype
2. lead to communication problems
3. social class can determine accent
4. could be difficult for children to learn the correct SE
5. Scouse and Cockney accents are annoying, mistrust people with this.
6. Standard English= better jobs.
Dialect levelling may be bad as if the accents start to converge then it will be hard to have their own identity however, this will make it easier to communicate.
1. dialect levelling is when accents convergence with on another from different parts of the county, over time they become similar.
code switching- adapt your accent to suit the circumstance ( e.g. a interview)
Black English- a dialect of American English characteristics by pronunciations, syntactical structures and vocabulary used and associated with North American black people and a wide range of forms varying to the extent to which they differ from SE

Ethnicity- representing a shared sense of identity and history. An ethnic group is therefore a group of people who see themselves as being distinctive in some way fromothers.
Polari- British gay men developed the eclectic, secretive slang at a time when society stigmatised them.
dialect- not just about the words you use, it is also about how both syntax and morphology can vary.
