   • Whats a data capture form?
     • data capture forms often use boxs or a set amount of spaces and provide examples aswell
       • This is to make sure each filed is completed correctly
     • Data is often entered as a code in a database
       • Example - In the above data capture form Y is used for yes and N is used for no
         • Pros

           • make searching thr database easier as data is entered in a standard format
   • Data capture forms are pre-printed forms or online forms with promts or questions and spaces for answers

2. Data Protection Act

   • The data protection act aims to protects the rights of the owners of data.
   • Rules that data contollers musts follow
     • 1. Processed fairly and lawfully
     • 2. Processed for limited purposes
     • 3. Adequate, revelant and not excessive
     • 4. Accurate
     • 5. Not kept longer than necessary
     • 6. Processed in accordance with the data subjects rights
     • 7. Kept secure
     • Not transferred to countries without adequate protection
   • The data protection act tries to protect individuals by giving them rights to access any data stored by other and to try and make sure that the data is processed appropriately
   • Most people would prefer that their personal data is kept private and cannot be accessed or used by everyone

3. Data Validation and Verication

   • Validation is an automatic computer check to ensure that the data entered is sensible and reasonable. It does not check the accuracy of data.
   • Validation Type
     • Check digit
       • Works - The last one or two digits in a code are used to check the other digits correct. (bar code reasers in supermarkets use check digits)
     • Format Check
       • Works - Checks the data in the correct format (When L is any letter and 9 is any number)
     • Length Check
       • Works - Checks the data isnt too short or too long ( A password which needs to be six letters long)
     • Presence Check
       • Works - Checks the data has been entered into a filed ( In most databases a key filed cannot be left blank)
     • Range Check
       • Works - Checks that a value falls within the specified range ( Number of hours worked must be less than 50 and more than 0)
     • Spell Check
       • Works - Looks up words in the dictionary ( When word processing)
   • Verification is performed to ensure that the data entered extactly matches the original source
   • Two methods of verication
     • Double entery
       • Entering the data twice and comparing the two copies
     • Proofreading data
       • This method involes someone checking the data entered against the original document

4. Synchronastion

   • Data from one device is matched up and updated with another device, so only one true verison exists
     • Example: Techie loads up installation feedback, so that jackies records are up to date
