Act 1 Scene 3:

-this scene begins, yet again, with thunder and lightning as we see the witches for a second time. in this scene the witches power is illustrated as one witch speakes of how a sailors wife refused to giver her chesnutz, she claims she will now use the weather to torture him. this shows all their wicked traits and how evil they are, relating to the first theme introduced by the sisters.

-the sisters then cast a charm when they hear banquo and macbeth coming

-they then produce three prophecies: the first witch calls macbeth "thane of glamis", the second witch calls him "thane of cawdor", whitch the audience know about but macbeth doesn't (first prophecy), the third says macbeth will become king; "all hail macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter", then macbeth is told that banquos children wil become kings, he "shalt get kings"

-macbeth then demands the witches elaborate on their proficies, but they vanish, this could show that macbeth has no control over his life or fate.

-macbeth then has a private deabate (speech) with himself as he is glad he is thane of cawdor but is worried something will happen to duncan- this greatly contrasts his future actions.

-macbeth finally decides that if fate has him as king, then he shall become king; "if chance have me king, why chance may crown me, without my stir"- he intends not to do anything but this constrasts his decisions later on.
