Poverty 2: A Divided World

Seite 1

Most of us are probably aware that there is a great deal of poverty in the world. Television news frequently brings us pictures of starving people. It was the experience of seeing such pictures on TV in 1984 which led Bob Geldof, the former lead singer with the Boomtown Rats, to set up the charity 'Band Aid'. Band Aid raised £8 million through its hit single 'Do they know it's Christmas?' at the end of that year; a huge success. The money was sent to provide relief to people starving in the Horn of Africa.
