Definition

1. GFR < 60 for at least 3 months with or without evidence of kidney damage

2. Evidence of kidney damage (with or without decrease in GFR) for at least 3 months as evidence by the following

Microalbuminuria (urine albumin creatinine ratio mg/mmol males 2.5-25 and females 3.5-35)

Macroalbuminuria (urine albumin creatinine ratio mg/mmol males >25 and females > 35)

Proteinuria

Persistent haematuria (without any urological conditions)

Pathological abnornalities (abnormal renal biopsy)

Radiology abnormalities (scarring, polycystic kidney)

Why is it so common in the Aboriginal community

Highers risk factors (smoking, obesity)

Longer time to diagnosis

Less access to treatment --> more likely to progress

Poor socioeconomic situation -> poorer outcomes
