In 1967 a women’s movement began in the USA. People in this movement became known as women’s liberationists or ‘women’s libbers’. They strived to liberate women from the traditional roles and restrictions. Australian feminist Germaine Greer was part of this movement, and wrote a book in support of women’s liberation called The Female Eunuch. However this movement was unsuccessful, because by 1970, women were still limited in their career opportunities and discrimination continued to exist in most industries.
