- BTherapy used to treat phobic disoders
13What is Systematic desenstitisation's link to the behaviourist assumption?
- AMentally disordered behaviour is caused by the unconscious mind and wishes
- BKey influence on behaviour is how an individuals thinks about a situation
- CMentally disordered behaviour is learned, like any other behaviour
- DMentally disordered behaviour has a physical, biological cause such as an imbalance to neurotrasmitters
14What is the aim of Systematic Desensitisation?
- ATo learn a new stimulus response association through classical conditioning in order that an undesirable behaviour is suppressed.
- BTo identify and challenge maladaptive thoughts and replace them with constructive, positive thinking that will lead to healthy behaviour
15What is the first stage of desensitisation hierarchy?
- ATherapist and patient construct a desensitisation hierarchy which is a series of imagined scenes ranging from least to the most anxiety provoking
- BPatient is taught some relaxation techniques . Relaxation inhibits anxiety and this is called reciprocal inhibition
- CPatient moves up the hierarchy, at each step mastering total relaxation
16What is the first stage of desensitisation hierarchy?
- ATherapist and patient construct a desensitisation hierarchy which is a series of imagined scenes ranging from least to the most anxiety provoking
- BPatient is taught some relaxation techniques . Relaxation inhibits anxiety and this is called reciprocal inhibition

- CPatient is taught some relaxation techniques . Relaxation inhibits anxiety and this is called reciprocal inhibition
18What is the third stage of the Desensitisation hierarchy?
- APatient gradually works through the desensitisation hierarchy, each time visualising an anxiety provoking scene and at the same time practising relaxation
- BPatient is taught some relaxation techniques . Relaxation inhibits anxiety and this is called reciprocal inhibition
- CTherapist and patient construct a desensitisation hierarchy which is a series of imagined scenes ranging from least to the most anxiety provoking

- CPatient moves up the hierarchy, at each step mastering total relaxation
21What is the fifth and final stage of Desensitisation hierarchy?
- APatient moves up the hierarchy, at each step mastering total relaxation
- BPatient eventually masters the most anxiety provoking scene and thus overcomes their phobia
