• Optical Storage
• Solid state Storage

Optical Storage

• Optical storage can come in many different ways including:
• DVD
• CD
• Blu - Ray
• Optical storage is read by lasers in the system. The lasers read the indents in the optical storage.

Advantages/Disadvantages of optical storage

• The advantages of optical storage are that they are:
• Cheap
• Easy to take around
• The disadvantages of optical storage is that they are:
• Quite slow
• Not much storage
• Data cannot be easily written over

Magnetic Storage

• There are different types of magnetic storage. This includes:
• Hard disk drives
• Magnetic tape
• Hard disk drives consist of stacks of non removable disks coated with magnetic material.

Advantages/Disadvantages of magnetic storage

• The advantages of magnetic storage are:
• very fast access speeds
• They are quite cheap
• Very high storage capacity
• The disadvantages of magnetic storage are that:
• Fairly weak
• Don't work after being knocked by something
• Not very portable

Solid state storage

• Solid state storage works by storing data electronically using flash memory. Flash memory is in cameras, mobile phones and embedded devices
• Solid state storage is usually shortened to SSD

Advantages/Disadvantages of SSD

• The advantages of SSD are that:
• They're fast and light
• They're small and very portable
• If you hit it, it shouldn't stop working.
• The disadvantages of SSD are that:
• They're very expensive
• They don't have great storage capacity
