Atomic structure
Karten in diesem Stapel (5)
- 1What does proton mean?A subatomic particlewith a postive charge and a relative atomic mass of 1. The relative charge of a proton is +1.
- 2What does neutron mean?Uncharged subatomic particle, with a mass of 1 relative to a proton. The relative charge of a neutron is 0.
- 3What does electron mean?Subatomic particle, with a negative charge and a negligible mass relative to protons and neutrons.
- 4IsotopesAtoms of the same element with different numbers of neutrons are called isotopes.
Isotopes of an element have:
-the same atomic number and different mass numbers.
-The relative atomic mass of an element is the weighted average of the masses of the atoms of the isotopes. - 5Relative atomic massThe relative atomic mass, Ar, of an element is the average mass of its atoms compared to 1/12th of the mass of a carbon-12 atom.
Ar of an element is calculated from:
-the mass number of its sotopes
-the abundance of these isotopes
Ar=total mass of atoms/
total number of atoms
