  1. How many people are in the world?

  2. The world population

  3. Although it is not easy to calculate how many people there is on Earth. It is possible to do it with the available information. According to calculations of United Nations, in mid-2015 the population of the world was 7.35 billion, that is 7.350 million people. At the beginning of our era, 2020 ago years, it has been estimated that humanity reached approximately 250 million, that is, a quarter of a billion people. The first billion reached it in the 1800s

  4. Birth and mortality

  5. Population transformations can be explained in large part by two factors that are considered very important: birth levels and mortality levels. The average number of people born in a specific place and time, and who increase mint the existing population, is called birth. The number of people, who die in a specific place and time, and the existing population decreases, is called mortality.

  6. Demographic transition

  7. A little over two hundred years ago, that is, before the 18th century, population growth in all parts of the world. It was always very slow because high birth ratesthat were invalidated because high mortality rates. Many children died shortly after birth because the plagues killed entire populations. That is why the population did not increase. However, from the 18th century, and during the following centuries, the mortality rate was lowered. More people were born than they died.

  8. Continents’ population

  9. The world population is not evenly distributed among the continents. At present the most famous continent the world is the Asian, because there is a number of people (4,366 million) higher than the rest of the world. They are followed in descending order: Africa (1,113 million), Europe (788 million), North America (572 million), South America (416 million), Central America and the Caribbean (48 million), and Oceania (39 million)

  10. Population disproportions

  11. In 2007, worldwide, the urban population already exceeded the rural population. But the proportion is different according to the continents. North America is the most urbanized continent (81%). Africa and Asia are the least urbanized (41%). The other continents have a greater urban population: Latin America (78%); Europe (74%) and Oceania (73%).
