Creating Study Aids

Page 2

I'm always cramming to hand in an assignment or take an exam.

I just can’t catch up; I keep getting farther behind.

Take scheduled breaks only or allow yourself only short (5- 10 minute) breaks.

I can’t find blocks of time to study.

Set mini deadlines for when you will read each section of a lesson or complete part of an assignment, not just the

last piece.

Hours go by and I don't get anything done.

Work in smaller chunks of time, an hour or less whenever you have a few minutes to spare. Create flashcards.

Talk to your instructor right away and make a plan together for how you can get back on track.

I keep getting interrupted when I try

to study.

Find somewhere quiet, like a library or school to study. Turn off your phone and/or tell others you are busy.

Page 3

Step 1: List three possible places that you can study quietly and without interruption.

1. _____law library___________________________________________________________

2. ______penn state college campus library__________________________________________________________

3. _______home_________________________________________________________

Step 2: Complete the template on the next page at the beginning of each week, blocking off times when you’ll study.

Step 3. When are some times that you can sneak in some more study minutes, even 5–10 minutes? (Some examples are during your commute, during your lunch break, waiting in line at the grocery store, or at the gym.) List three possible ideas.

1. _____gym on treadmill as warm up or extra cool down___________________________________________________________

2. ______waiting for a meeting apt ect __________________________________________________________

3. _______while doin facial or watching tv or doing a hair mask_________________________________________________________

Online learning has a lot of benefits but also takes organization and time management.

• It's good to understand your specific learning style (visual, auditory, or kinesthetic) so that you can use the right study tools and strategies.

• Strong time management skills include knowing how to manage interruptions, prioritize work, set schedules/deadlines, and find time for studying in daily life.

• If you get behind in your work, make a plan to get back on track and reach out to your instructor for help right away.

• Make sure you have a study space at home or at another quiet location, like a school

or library.

• Set or update your program goals to add your desired program end date and assign your lesson exam dates.
