wave
tidal
geothermal - 2Non-renewableoil
coal
uranium
biofuel
natural gas - 3Geothermal energycold water pumped down to the ground > heated and turns to steam > goes up to a turbine > generates electricity
- 4The national grid

- 5Wavestransverse > perpendicular vibrations
longitudinal > parrallel vibrations - 6Wave properties

- 7Reflection

- 8Refraction

- 9Diffraction

- 10Electrical powerpower(W) = energy(J) / time(s)
- 11Generating electricitytidal
solar
wind
biofuel
geothermal
hydroelectric
nuclear - 12Electromagnetic spectrum

- 13Radio wavesRadio waves have lower frequencies and longer wavelengths than microwaves. They are used to transmit television and radio programmes.
- 14Micro wavesMicrowave radiation has lower frequencies and longer wavelengths than visible light. Microwaves with certain wavelengths are absorbed by water molecules and can be used for cooking. Also can transmit signals for mobile calls.
- 15Infrared radiationInfrared radiation is absorbed by the skin and we feel it as heat. It is used in heaters, toasters and grills. It is also used for television remote control
- 16Visible lightlight you can see
- 17Ultraviolet radiationUltraviolet radiation is found naturally in sunlight. We cannot see or feel ultraviolet radiation, but our skin responds to it by turning darker.
- 18X-raysX-rays have a lower frequency than gamma radiation. Like gamma rays, they cannot be seen or felt. X-rays mostly pass through skin and soft tissue, but they do not easily pass through bone or metal.
- 19Gamma raysGamma waves have a very high frequency. Gamma radiation cannot be seen or felt. It mostly passes through skin and soft tissue, but some of it is absorbed by cells.
Gamma radiation is used to sterilise surgical instruments, to kill harmful bacteria in food, to kill cancer cells - 20States of mattersolid
liquid
gas - 21—Solid
can't flow
fixed shape/volume
dense
- 22—Liquid
can flow
fits shape of container
fixed volume
medium density
- 23—Gas
can flow
fills container
can change volume
low density
- 24Conductionheated electrons are given kinetic energy which is passed on to other free electrons which move up the rod
only metals have free electrons - 25Convectioncold particles are more dense > as they are heated they become less dense > rise > cool > become more dense >fall
only happens in liquids and gases - 26Solar panelsmatt black to absorb heat from the sun
copper pipes to conduct heat - 27Specific heat capacity

- 28Law of conservation of energyenergy is not made or destroyed
only changes from one form to another - 29Forms of energyelectrical
light
sound
kinetic
elastic potential
gravitational potential
heat
nuclear
chemical - 30Structure of the earth
- 31Lithospheremade up of tectonic plates which lie on top of mantle because they are less dense
- 32Gases in the atmosphere
