Flashcards
Forearms

Cards in this deck (21)
- 1Lower arm and handThe muscles in the forearm come in two types: Flexors and Extensors. The flexor muscles in your forearm allow you to write, type, grip, drive and lift objects.Extensors allow you to turn doorknobs, get dressed and push your car door closed.
- 2Anterior of the ForearmThe front of the forearm has less muscles than the back. Flexor muscles are found in the anterior of the forearm.Flexor muscles bend your fingers and thumb, and bend your wrist forward. These muscles travel along the front, or palm-side, of your forearm. There are two layers of wrist and finger flexors in your forearm: superficial and deep. The superficial muscles come together and form a tendon that attaches these muscles to your humerus.
- 3BrachioradialisMuscle on the radius side of the forearm and goes up the arm past the elbow. Superficial at the elbow and deep near the wrist.

- 4Pronator TeresThis muscle attaches from the humerus and ulna down to the outer edge of the radius; it pronates the forearm, rotating the lower end of the radius around the ulna. Superficial Layer

- 5Flexor Carpi radialisRadial extensor of the wrist; it arises from the medial epicondyle of the humerus and secures on the base of the second metacarpal; it flexes the wrist and abducts the hand. Superficial layer.

- 6Palmaris LongusIs located in between the flexor carpi radialis and the flexor carpi ulnaris. This muscle is absent in a percentage of the population.

- 7Flexor digitorum superficialisAttaches to the humerus, ulna and radius and splits into four tendons that run across the wrist into the hand to flex the fingers. Superficial Layer.

- 8Flexor Carpi UlnarisAnterior, Deep

- 9SupinatorAnterior, deep

- 10Flexor Pollicis longusThis muscle runs down the anterior of the forearm and turns into a tendon at the thumb. Deep level

- 11Posterior of the forearmThe back of the forearm has more muscles than the front. Extensor muscles are found on the back of the forearm. Extensor muscles straighten your fingers and bend your wrist backward. These muscles travel in two layers -- superficial and deep -- along the back of your forearm. The superficial extensor muscles come together and form the common extensor tendon
- 12Extensor Carpi radialis longusAttaches from the supercondylar ridge all the way to the base of the second metacarpal. Superficial Layer.

- 13Extensor Carpi radialis brevisExtensor of the wrist. It attaches from the epincondyle to the third metacarpal. Superficial Layer.

- 14Extensor digitorumExtensor of the fingers; it attaches to the epincondyle and becomes four tendons that fan out over the back of the fingers. Superficial layer.

- 15Extensor digiti minimiextensor muscle that turns into a tendon that attaches to the extensor digitorum at the back of the little finger. Superficial Layer.

- 16Extensor Carpi UlnarisThis muscle extends the wrist and adducts the hand. From the epicondyle to the base of the fifth metacarpal. Superficial layer.

- 17AnconeusActs with the triceps to extend the elbow joint. Superficial Layer.

- 18Abductor Pollicis LongusLong abductor of the thumb; it attaches to the base of the thumb's metacarpal.

- 19Extensor Pollicis LongusLong extensor of the thumb; it attaches onto the distal phalanx of the thumb

- 20Extensor Pollicis BrevisA short extensor of the thumb; it attaches to the proximal phalanx and pulls the thumb out to the side.

- 21extensor indicisExtensor of the index finger; it joins with the extensor digitorum of the index finger.
