Vibrations

muon neutrino Physics (A level) A level English 4 cards

Cards in this deck (4)

  1. 1What does isochronous mean?Period is independent of amplitude. Simple harmonic oscillators are isochronous.
  2. 2What is SHM?Any oscillation in which the acceleration is proportional to the displacement and in the opposite direction.
  3. 3Give a few examples of systems that are intentionally damped.Compass needles are damped by filling the compass with a liquid.
Shock absorbers in a car are critically damped.
  4. 4Give examples of situations in which resonance is useful, and in which it is harmful.Useful: microwave cooking; radio and TV tuning circuits
Harmful: resonance in buildings and bridges
