- 3Informal spoken discursemost of the spoken language we listen to is informal and spontaneous: the speaker is making it up as he/she gos along rather aloud or reciting from memory.
- 4Listener expectation and purposethe listener almost always knows in advace something about what is going to be said: who is speaking for examples, or the basic topic. linked to this is his or her purpose.
- 5Looking as well as listeningonly a very small proportion of lsitening is done to the radio or telephone for example, we have something to look at that is likenf to what is being said: usually the speaker him or herself, but often other visal stimuli as well.
- 6ongoing, purposeful listener responsethe listener is usually respoding at intervals as the discourse is going on.
- 7speaker attentionthe speaker usually directs he/she speech at the listener, takes the listener character, intentions etc.
