nina.stuer14 English 12 cards

Cards in this deck (12)

  1. 1Absolute valueThe absolute value of a number is the distance between the number and the origin (0).
Ex: |-9| = 9 because -9 is 9 spaces away from 0 in the negative direction.
  2. 2Adjacent anglesTwo angles in a plane which share a common vertex and a common side but do not overlap.
  3. 3Scientific notationA standardized way of writing real numbers. All real numbers are written in the form a x 10^b, where 1 ≤ a < 10 and b is an integer.
Ex: 351 is written 3.51 x 10^2 in scientific notation.
  4. 4MedianThe value for which half the numbers are larger and half are smaller. If there are two middle numbers, the median is the arithmetic mean of the two middle numbers.
  5. 5MeanAverage
  6. 6ModeThe number that occurs the most often in a list.
  7. 7MidpointThe point halfway between two given points. The midpoint formula is:
    ((x1+x2)/2, (y1+y2)/2)
  8. 8X-interceptA point at which a graph intersects the x-axis. Y=0 where the line crosses the x-axis, so plug 0 in for y and solve for x.
  9. 9Y-interceptA point at which a graph intersects the y-axis.
  10. 10SlopeA number which is used to indicate the steepness of a line, as well as indicating whether the line is tilted uphill or downhill.
    Slope (m) = rise (y2-y1)/run (x2-x1).
  11. 11ReciprocalThe reciprocal of x is 1/x. In other words, a reciprocal is a fraction flipped upside down.
  12. 12Slope intercept form of an equationY = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.
