- 2Equivalent RatiosEquivalent Ratio of 3:4 = 6:?
Answer: 6:8 because you multiply the first number by 2, then you have to multiply the second number by 2 - 3Simplifying RatiosThere are 2 ways to do it:
1. Half both the numbers as far as you can
2. Find a common factor and divide by that - 4Using Ratios to Solve ProblemsWord Problems
Alan and Rachel share some money in the ratio 5:3. If Rachel receives $204, how much does Alan receive?
Answer: $340 because 204 divided by 3 = 68 so multiply the 5 by 68 too - 5Dividing a Quantity in a Given RatioDivide 420 in the ratio 7:5
7+5 = 12
= 420 divided by 12= 35
= 7x35 : 5x35
= 245:175 - 6Rates8 km in 2 h
4 km in 1 h = 4:1
Simplify if relevant - 7Fractions-Decimals-PercentagesFractions to Decimals: 9/25= 36/100
Multiply the denominator by how many times it goes into a hundred then turn numerator into decimal
Fractions to Percentages: Same as above
Decimals to Fractions: Move the decimal point 2 places to the right and put over a hundred
Decimals to Percentages: Move the decimal point 2 places to the right and put percent symbol
Percentages to Fractions: Put the percentage over a hundred
Percentages to Decimals: Put a decimal point between the number and percent symbol and move it 2 places to the left
SIMPLIFY WHEN RELEVANT for Fractions - 8Finding a Percentage of a Quantity23% of 85
Convert percentage to decimal and multiply by other number: 0.23x85= 19.55 - 9Unitary MethodFind 1% of something then multiply by 100
8% of a number is 108
8%= 108
1%= 13.5
100%= 135
Divide to 8 to get to 1, so divide other number by 8. Then multiply by 100 to get answer - 10Discount, Commission & Simple Interest
