1. Firewall

   • Protect a network or system from unauthorized access with a firewall.
   • Used to help protect a computer network from intruders.
   • Used when program is trying to connect to another network.
   • Controls which programs can send and receive data packets.
   • Prevents harmful data entering your computer.

2. Anti-virus

   • Software to detect and destroy computer viruses.
   • Scans the computer periodically.
   • Needs updating regularly to make sure it knows the latest threats.
   • Quarantines any programs or files which are harmful.
   • Should be used on email attachments.
   • Protects against malicious software.
   • Should be used when downloading new software from the internet.

3. Physical Security

   • Protection from physical actions such as theft, fire and natural disasters.

4. Passwords

   • A string of characters that allows access to a computer or system.

5. Encryption

   • The process of converting information or data into a code.
   • We use a key to decrypt a message.
   • We use a cipher to encrypt a message.
   • We use encryption to unlock and lock our data/information from others.
   • You can tell if a website is using encryption by seeing if there is a padlock next to the http.
   • Some websites don not require access to your data such as wikipedia.
   • Use use encryption in phone passwords, logins and access to bank account.
