As Mechanics
Velocity and acceleration
- Rate of movement
- Velocity (ms-1)=Displacement (m) / Time (t)
- This can also be shown as the simpler as Speed=distance/time
- Velocity is the the speed of an object but with a direction
- Displacement is the distance but with a direction
- These are known as Vector Quantities
- Velocity (ms-1)=Displacement (m) / Time (t)
- Average and instantaneous speed
- Average speed is calculated by dividing the total distance by total time
- To get instantaneous speed you draw a tangent onto a displacement time graph
- Example of tangent
- You work out the gradient to get the speed. Using the change in X/ Change in Y
- Delta X/Delta Y Draw delta using a triangle before the letter
- Acceleration
- Is defined by the rate of change in velocity
- Acceleration (ms-2)= Change in velocity (ms-1)/time taken for velocity to change (s)
- Rate of movement
