  1. What is a parabola? A parabola is a curve where any point is at an equal distance from: a fixed point (the focus ), and a fixed straight line (the directrix )

    • Focus is a given point
      • DIrectrix is a given line not through the focus
  2. The vertex of a parabola is the point where the parabola crosses its axis of symmetry.

    • axis of symmetry is the line that runs down the parabola´s 'center'.
  3. The equation of a parabola can be expressed in either standard or vertex.

    • Standard Form Equation The standard form of a parabola's equation is generally expressed: y=ax2+bx+c
    • Vertex Form of Equation The vertex form of a parabola's equation is generally expressed as: y = a(x-h)2+k
  4. Axis of symmetry of a parabola.(n.d). In Math warehouse. Rectrieved form http://www.mathwarehouse.com/geometry/parabola/axis-of-symmetry.php
