- A parabola is a curve where any point is at an equal distance from: a fixed point (the focus ), and a fixed straight line (the directrix )

- All parabolas are vaguely “U” shaped and they will have a highest or lowest point that is called the vertex

- The dashed line with each of these parabolas is called the axis of symmetry
