Chemical Joints
Tensol
- This is used to join thermoplastics
- Very Similar to welding a joint
- Tensol is a solvent and when applied to both surfaces of the thermoplastic it will literally melt the material
- Should be clamped for 24 hours as it is a permanet joint
Polystyrene Cement
- Works in a similar way to Tensol
- It is a chemical weld
- The cement contains a solvent that melts the surface of the plastics being joined
- This allows the two component parts to fuse together
- As the solvent evaporates thestrength returns to the plastic
- This allows the two component parts to fuse together
- Works in a similar way to Tensol
It should be rememberd that only thermoplastics can be joined with Tensol cement or polystyrene cement
