Digital Evolution

  1. EDUCATING FOR CHANGE

    • ambitious initiatives have emerged that dream of modernizing the obsolete educational system to adapt it to the new business demands and, at the same time, make it accessible to people of any social class, and from all corners of the world
    • This is the case of Knod Institute, which connects companies and universities, and creates ad hoc programs in countries such as Kenya and India, Minerva aims to train the best talent in the world through the Internet, Singularity University initiative led by Google and Nasa or Khan Academy free mathematics channel through YouTube, with more than two million subscribers.
  2. THE BUSINESS OF IMMORTALITY

    • Another of the most important changes to come is the evolution of today's curative and mass medicine to a preventive and personalized medicine.
    • New technologies will play a fundamental role in this evolution. Peter Thiel, investor in Facebook and co-founder of PayPal, has promoted numerous start ups in the health and biotechnology sector from the Founders Fund, researching the processes that lead our bodies to age. Organovo, on the other hand, is an American biotech that has already been able to print human tissue for research purposes.
    • In 2030, 20% of the population in developed countries will be over 65.
    • The Spanish startup Nuubo, for example, has created a T-shirt that performs electrocardiograms, replacing diagnostic tests such as Holter. It is already used in public and private hospitals in Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy, and in the training of nine professional soccer teams.
  3. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

    • Virtual assistants such as Siri (from Apple) or Maya (developed by ,sevillana Indisys bought by Intel in 2013) are already able to interact with human language and learn for themselves from conversations with users.
    • In a few years, robots are expected to spread to almost all fields, including homes and work spaces. The interaction between machines and humans will also present many challenges in the world of work.
  4. THE 'BOOM' OF SOLAR ENERGY

    • it will be cheaper to generate electricity with solar panels than to buy it from electric ones. This will make it possible to bring energy to millions of people in the Third World. At present, Africa has more than 1 billion inhabitants, of which 584 million live without access to electricity, according to the United Nations.
  5. COLLABORATIVE CONSUMPTION

    • In this last area there are proposals with great potential, such as Airbnb, Uber or BlaBlaCar. However, either because of the youth of these initiatives or because of the difficulty of making models profitable, by their very nature, protected by low cost, none has yet become a business giant capable of changing the world.
    • The trend, championed and driven by the Millennials, seems unstoppable. But in the collaborative consumption sector, more than in any other, the law of the strongest reigns. Only those who are able to attract and retain many millions of users and at the same time comply with the regulation, which the government is working on, will have a chance to survive.
