Network security threats !

  1. Phishing

    • Usually a email or text with a scam trying to con the user into believing that a real company is trying to contact you .This can then lead to the user potentially giving out their passwords and personal details.
    • To prevent you from giving scams your personal details you can , update your password regulary and make sure you realise the signs (that it's from a scam) like bad grammar , false email/identity and not knowing your real name (using dear customer) .
    • Examples of phishing can be that the scammer could email you saying that you need to pay money or update your accounts of a company. This could lead to the user inputting their details thinking it's the real company. They could also call you and say this too.
  2. Bruce force attack.

    • A brute force attack is when a piece of software try's lots of different passwords to gain unauthorised access to a computer.
    • To prevent this you can use a strong password which has capital and lowercase letters, symbols, numbers and a minimum of 8 characters.
      • You can also prevent a Bruce force attack by using 2 step verification (code sent to a phone to confirm identity.)Another way is also to lock accounts after a certain number of attempts to login.
  3. Social engineering

    • The manipulation of people into performing acts or to enter your personal details.
    • To prevent social engineering you can create multiple user access levels , an effective network policy , using biometric identification measures and ensuring users have strong passwords !
    • Another way to prevent social engineering is to make sure the users are aware and to not give out personal data if asked.
  4. Malware

    • Malware prevention methods.
      • Don't download software from unknown sources and don't click on unknown links.
      • Run anti-malware software to try and detect malware.
      • Scan documents before opening them to detect malware.
  5. SQL injection

    • You can prevent SQL by using penetration which will check for weaknesses and report it back to the company.
